Welcome to Doherty Applied Microbial Genomics
Doherty Applied Microbial Genomics is a newly established research initiative working in the area of public health and clinical microbiology. We are funded by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology (DMI) at the University of Melbourne. The initiative is situated within the Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory (MDU PHL) in the Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity located within the prestigious Melbourne Biomedical Precinct.
Our mission is to establish microbial genomics as a tool for routine clinical and public health microbiology in Australia. Our alignment with MDU PHL as well as our established expertise in bioinformatics and capacity to perform microbial genomics research make us uniquely placed to perform and facilitate research in this rapidly evolving area of clinical and public health microbiology. The transfer of knowledge is crucial to this mission and as such the Centre also provides high level training to scientists, bioinformaticians and clinicians as well as support to undergraduate teaching initiatives in the field.
